Direction of this Project

Today I came to a bit of a realization of my intention with documentation power generators and ac units. First it is my fascination with the structures themselves and their very simple and practical design but also these structures give an insight into the energy culture of America at large. Many of these generators are not actually needed day to day, but are a back up generators if the main power fails. Has electricity been so ingrained into our society that one cannot go a second without it?

These structures are little monuments to the energy industry's success and the proliferation of electrical development. My project is a criticism of America's energy consuming culture and I attempt to transform these structures into something other than what they are. One reason this is so urgent for me is that I am reclaiming the landscape that surrounds me through my photographs and making these structures my own instead of the culture of consumption permeating every aspect of my life. Ideally everyone would live off the grid so that we are not getting controlled by the people who control the grid. Maybe we must go "Green." But we definitely have to go Black by dropping out of the energy race. As an alternative we should start to build wind generators Like This Wind Generator Here!
